😊😏 Let there be light 😏😊

Don’t worry; I haven’t gone all religious.

I’m going to rambling on, about the light that ‘philosopher mouse of the hedge’Β  showedΒ  me.

As has been pointed out to me, on occasion, by some , I’m not the sharpest knife in the block 😠, when it comes to the ‘finer points of “blogging” ‘; 😟 πŸ˜•or much else apparently; πŸ˜• 😟

I do try 😊; well; sort of 😏😊

Some may have noticed, from time to time,Β  the comments section of my web log (blog) turns into a forum/chat room over which I exercise no control.

Other times I’m given valuable advice, and helpful suggestions and the following comment, fromΒ philosopher mouse of the hedge: which I’ve copied, and am about to paste; got the old grey/gray matter;

“Make sure you print out copies of your memory posts – your great grandchildren will adore them!!! Grown kids take a while to get any sense HAHA
I treasure all the old family journals I have – tell real stories from those who were there…which may become more valuable/important as there are those rewriting history as we speak.
Beatles – can’t wait for that one – we all started speaking with English accents then…really, we tried”

What a brilliant idea; is it any wonder it never occurred to me?

“How do I go about it?” I ask.

There appears to be many ways to go about it and ‘phil’, with a great deal of patience,Β  took me through some of the ways; and I gave it a go; sort of πŸ˜• 😣 πŸ˜•, my first effort was good for a chuckle.

I was acknowledging a comment from a lady who’d dropped by, after seeing/reading something I’d said/done on oneΒ  GP Cox’s / Pacific Parachuter posts.

Why she wrote on the one she did, I don’t know how she found, it is beyond me, but find it she did, and left a nice comment.

It was one I wrote 12 months or so ago; I had a read of it thought it might be an idea to try out one of the print systems that ‘phil’ suggested. So taking the easy step I selected the ‘Print’ button, that’s the one, just above the heads of those that drop by, at the end of the post.

Up pops the thing at the side of the screen, telling me whats happening with the printer, and what I’ve selected to be printed ( I suppose I’m raving on about something y’all know already) and I have a look and sure enough, it’s a good replication of the post, got all the comments -44- plus; all the rubbish that fills in gaps. The lot!

Then when I selected the pages to print, it told me that there is 31 pages. That’s 31 pages to print a small to middling size post plus comments.

‘You have to be kidding!’Β  I yell at the printer; and like everything/everybody else, when I call out. it treated me with ignore!

What to do? Being as smart as the average 🐻 I had a look at the page where the first comment appeared; page 8, cant fool me I told the printer to just print pages 1 – 7.

And it did!

I’m not joking

It took 7 pages, to print aΒ  small, to average, size post, yet the text didn’t appear that large, so it’s back to the drawing board.

While I was shuffling around with this nonsense, I had a look back at my first efforts in 2011/12; to see if there was anything there that may interest my great, great, grandchildren, and I found it quite amusing.

Blog, after blog, of me rambling on, and not a soul dropping in for a chat, and to leave a comment, I was ‘talking’ to myself; but as I’ve always said, I like to chat with intelligent people.

I’m planning on boring you stiff, with a reprise of some of my original posts.

I wonder how many will stay

For those who might be wondering what post it was. there are few new followers; here’s a link you might like to waste some time, it was one of my better posts if there is such a thing, and don’t forget the 44 comments, mostly from you can guess!

  1. My grandkids and any others who might one day want to read my blog will have to read it online. The amount of paper and ink required to print out more than 3,000 posts would be rediculous. The problem, which Phil probably anticipates, is that once we’re dead and stop paying our WordPress fees, our blogs will go poof, or at least revert to something unrecognizable. I may have to add something to my will that says my son should pay to maintain my blog for a year or two, or as long as it takes for any interested relatives to read it. A few talented WP bloggers have actually gotten their blogs published as books.

My much travelled friends have turned their travel blog with all the pictures and stories and friends; comments etc, into a hardback printed book. They are a delight to skim through.
Your beautiful grand kids just may appreciate something like that, with their photos and your stories.

  5. Having been instructed to go back to the link you provided, I did exactly that! That was an adorable post, as you well know, from the proliferous comments it inspired. I’m sure your grandchildren (and great-grandchildren as well) will enjoy it as much as I did! Thanks, Lord BoB!

    1. Thank you Diane, when I was writing it
I thought I was actually being a bit rude; then I reasoned that those that I was writing about would never get to read it, so what the heck.
It got a very good reception, just wish I could do more like it, Thank you again for your knid words πŸ™‚

  6. Still a great read, and record of informal ‘manners’ in the doctor’s office! Good luck with your printing, if you decide to do it. I appreciated your comments about what happens to our blogs when we die or disappear. Got me thinking….:)

  8. Just read the old post, a thoroughly good read.

When I began blogging I wrote everything in a Word document first, and copied over into the blog. I believed this was a good way of keeping a record. I’m not sure why I stopped doing that, perhaps I’ll restart. I imagine it would work the other way around too and would take up less space than printing out in HTML. I suppose it depends on whether you needed to print out the comments. I think I might take up the idea of printing out some my posts, minus the comments, as lovely as they are. πŸ™‚

    1. I’m giving really serious consideration to saving all mine, PLUS comments. I do think it’s the comments that make my posts.
Some of my posts have generated many comments that are clever, funny, and pertinent; and well worth saving.
Disperser who you mentioned in another comment and I no longer see eye to eye, and we no longer have the repartee , I hope that it doesn’t detract from my posts

      1. I had previously guessed at the guilty person’s name. I love all my comments but I’m not sure my great grandkids would appreciate them as I do.
Tell you what, when I’ve finished catching up on a backlog of notifications, I’ll try an experiment of copying a post with comments and printing to see what it looks like. I will let you know or send you a copy for your appraisal! Remind me which of the word processors you use, I know we discussed it a couple of weeks ago. πŸ™‚
