Better late than never; I’ve been a bit under the weather the past week or so, not feeling too well at all, and, as a result of which, I haven’t acknowledged/replied to several comments made on my last post; and believe me there are/were, many!
To be honest I’ve usually subscribed to the old adage ” I might not always be right but I’m never wrong”, with the variation, (being a modest sort of bloke) with, “I might not always be wrong, and I’m never right” 👿
I’ve always thought/believed, that brevity is/was, the home of knowledge and wisdom, not that I’m claiming either of these virtues.
There are those though, that like to show their erudition, by giving long, convoluted explanations, and answers, to a simple matter, and, since the advent of the Internet, and Google, with many links to sites/places/blogs, whatever, to give credence to their long, convoluted explanation; at times running to probably a couple of thousand word.
Well each to his own I suppose. I sometimes think, perhaps that is a sign of what could loosely be termed an inferiority complex; something which I’ve never had. To the contrary I’ve always had a superiority complex 😈
I was wrong!
As the heading states I WAS WRONG, the ad that I was carrying on about, one might add at times vehemently, was not wrong. I’d read it quickly and as is my want, blew my top at what I considered false advertising.
It wasn’t; this was brought to my full notice and attention by none other than drum roll “Garrulous Gwen”. She had given me a long burst, which I believe had precious little to do with the ad, but a lot to do with her association with said retailer, to which I made a facetious reply.
Garrulous Gwen then straighten me out, very succinctly, and here’s what she wrote:
- The brown rice pictured in the ad is on special
Fourteen words. The brown rice and quinoa mixture, is not pictured, and is not on special.
Like me Colonialist seemed to have doubts about brown rice & quinoa as a mixture. I went to Sunwhite Rice’s website and sure enough they do have this mixture.
My good mate Neill made this comment; (again cut and pasted just like Gwens);

Brian, at first I thought that, but on closer inspection, I think they are excluding a mix of brown rice and quinoa. Quinoa is supposed to be one of those super foods.
Neill.
Yes. And I was wrong too. Because I didn’t know there was such a thing as brown rice and quinoa .

Seems an odd concoction to me but I suppose people like my 2 daughters would lap the stuff up

The apology is hardly called for. As that advertisement was worded, it was riddled with inaccuracies arising from bad grammar and punctuation. Why are people scared of multiple dashes? That should have been expressed ‘Excludes Brown-Rice-&-Quinoa’ to be clear. What the second 250g was about is anyone’s guess unless it was correcting the ‘estimate’ appearing above. Also, things like the ‘ea’ instead of ‘per pack’ are clumsy.

I’m the worlds greatest exponent of bad grammar, and punctuation is just a word to me. Being autodidactic I never bothered with such stuff. But I should have been more careful before blowing my top! 👿

That’s all well and good, but I still think the ad was misleading/confusing.
Take care of yourself, ElBob.

Thanks Sue, I can’t come at brown rice, and I’ve never tried the other stuff snd I have no intention of trying them this late in life. Why chance spoiling what’s left?

Isn’t that what Catholics do? I’m married to one, I’ve brought up our three billys as such, and I’ve never known any to go there, except the children, when they had to, well I suppose they did, they went to Catholic schools, cost me a fortune and they’re all atheist. Waste of money in a way.
Sorry about the delay in acknowledging your comment Elouise, very remiss of me and I do apologize.
Still, I can report that today, I’m feeling exceptionally well, in fact the best I’ve felt for ages. 😀

So you went against the grain on that one?
Read this earlier in email, but got sidetracked.
I always get a chuckle out of your writing style and what crosses your path/blog/life.
Hope you’re on the mend and entertaining your lovely dog again.
