Hang on! I haven’t gone yet :)

Perhaps I should have used a different title for yesterdays post; it was, after all, a post to let my reader/follower know that I’m bored with all the health business blogs/posts. It’s been going on for too long now, it was time for me to drop the subject. That’s all!

I’m actually feeling quite well, and am in excellent spirits; I have high hopes that this will continue for some time.

However, I thank you all for the kind comments,  and suggestions. I’ve taken particular note of the one from PiedType and will appoint Emilio, aka disperser, as official obit. writer in chief when the time comes.

Can’t have an obit with out some humour, even if it is of his type, but I’m sure he’ll rise to the occasion. 😈 I appoint John, aka wfdec,  as editor in chief of said dispersers obit;  his spelling leaves much to be desired and who better than a retired schoolmaster? 👿

Hopefully Emilio will leave out pictures, of hot rod cars; they’re really not my scene. Pictures of animals will be nice; and perhaps Derrick will add some flowers from his English country garden 😀

My granddaughters will be getting a letter, from their grandpa, at some stage, Ruby seems to enjoy books, which pleases me greatly, and I have a boxed set of Jane Austen’s works for her all nicely wrapped and ready.

Garrulous Gwen, being the gal on the spot, so to speak, can report on the arrival amid scenes of jubilation, at the Uni. of the Gong; and until then I’ll keep on slogging. 😀

  1. That’s what I thought you meant, but the reassurance is … reassuring.

Still, it was a pretty sneaky way to get your readers’ attention. 😈

    1. It truly hadn’t occurred to me that it would have been taken in that light PT, I usually refer to blogs as posts as I find blogs an ugly word and I’m not very fond of ugly words and “The Last Blog” could be mistaken for something entirely different here in Oz.

      1. “Blog” is an ugly word, isn’t it? I’ve hated it since the day I first heard it. Hoped it wouldn’t catch on but alas, it did.

  3. “Feeling better” are you?

That kind of makes you a bit of a tease, donnit?

As for writing your obituary, no can do. I’d be using proper (American) English as opposed to the antiquated (Brit’s) English and you’d come back to complain about it.

Plus, what kind of demand is it when you then enlist someone else to edit my work? Have them write it, then.

    1. Creative writing and editing are two different skills. Since it is impossible to edit what has not already been written then I think Lord Beari’s proposal is perfectly sound. You will be great in the creative role. Suitably irreverent I suspect. Perhaps John can do two edits: American and British. Australian is becoming a corruption of the two in my opinion.

    2. I have strong opinions about editing and even managed to write a few of them down for posterity:
      https://dispersertracks.com/2015/02/11/writing-and-editing/

While I marginally accept the idea and utility of an editor for a published work — usually, fiction — I draw the line (figuratively) at anyone editing my personal writing. Granted, I might have to “enhance” El-Bob’s obituary and it might thus drift into fiction, but I would still consider it “personal” and thus immune from editorial meddling. I might make an exception for proofreading, but editing? Nope.

But, as I said above, while El-Bob has crossed my path — and vice-versa — I don’t think I’m qualified in the role of his obituaryfer. Never having met the man — and excluding his strange obsession with denying the existence of British people — I honestly don’t have his measure.

I could regurgitate a few of the personal experiences he has shared on these pages but I have no way of assessing the accuracy of his recollection nor do I have confidence in my ability to decipher his stilted and somewhat disheveled writing style.

I truly believe he is the best man for this job and should get on with it post haste.

        1. You know, if I edited his comment you would readily be able to understand it. He says he doesn’t need editing.

        2. You’re presuming the lack of understanding is tied to the writing.

We should test this; I magnanimously grant you permission to edit my above comment.

I’m curious to see if you can indeed alter the presentation, retain the message, and have the light of understanding shine on El-Bob so that he’ll get the gist of what I’m saying.

  5. Hey there!

I have been following you and wanted to comment multiple times. I had forgot my password though. So this morning I made an especial effort.

I was hired to write obits once, you know. But I hope that is not needed for you for a very long time.

After all, where else would I get my codswallop? Well, being in america, every day brings a steaming new load of cobblers.

Don’t leave me yet! I have not revived my blog because I am not sure that I have anything to say that readers would want to hear. HA!

  8. Brian,
very pleased to hear you are not “in extremis” and there is still time for us to have a few beers at the Old Vic. If you are up to it, how about this coming Sunday around 2:00 p.m.? If it suits the Polish Princess, she might join us.

  9. I’m so exhausted from reading through all these super-intelligent comments that I don’t know what to say! Actually, I’m thrilled you’re going to keep on writing and posting ad nauseum! I also knew you’d come through on all the details of who does what and when and how.

Your comments about ‘blog’ reminded me a little song our mother taught us at home when we were very young.
“Down in a bog lived a little polli-wog.
    Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wee!
What care I if I’m mostly tail?!
I’ll soon be a frog, said he.
So he grew four legs and two big eyes.
    His tail disappeared, you see.
He hopped and jumped and jumped and hopped!
    Ha-ha! I’m a frog! croaked he.”

That’s why I don’t care for the blog word–sounds too much like a bog. Which it sometimes seems to be.

Pamela visited me today, left a nice note, and is following. Thank you, Brian. You’re a good bloke! 🙂

    1. I’m glad Pamela contacted you; I do believe I’m the only one who has read her posts, about 3 or 4 over the past few years. She appears to me to be very frightened, for want of a better word and needs encouragement and pushing to get started.I think I will do a post and try and get some of my followers to go and give her lonely ‘blog’ the LIKE tick, might just encourage her.
Your views about that word bog is what comes to mind and here in Australia it usually has a course meaning
Love the poem about the frog, I’ll cut and paste them so that I can recite it to Ruby and Poppy May 🙂 They’ll love it 🙂

I read several of Pam’s posts/pages. She’s an outstanding writer, and will, hopefully, with regular posts, begin growing a following. Life is difficult. I like finding writers like you and others who aren’t afraid to talk about what’s really going on in their lives. She’s definitely in that mode.
