Last night around 8.30 I switched on my TV, I watch “The Blacklist” with James Spader. I rather enjoy watching this actor, he always has a delightful supercilious air about him. There’s no difference in his acting in this program as in “Boston Legal” which I found quite amusing; until it deteriorated into trite trash.
In “The Blacklist” he looks completely dapper. immaculately attired, (something he wasn’t in “Boston Legal” that was left to his sparring partner; Denny Crane aka Captain Kirk aka Wm. Shatner) and when stepping out the pictures complete when he dons a hat. Will this start a revival? I hope so but it’s a bit late for me.

I agree with you about Spader. There’s something really intriguing and unique about him and the way he conducts himself. Can’t say I’m a regular viewer of The Blacklist, but I always enjoy it, or Spader, when I watch. I had to look up trilby. Dapper hat, no nonsense, gets the job done while looking stylish. I like it. Bet you looked good in it, too.

I must admit that the only reason I continue to follow this program is Mr James Spader; lets face it the plots are probably the most implausible ever produced 🙄 yet our Jimmy brings something to it to make it seem plausible. Like you I’m not a regular devoted viewer in fact I usually watch it on the catch up TV station when I remember which I don’t always do.
The reason I actually reblogged/pressed this post, which I originally did some 2 years back, was the Westpac Bank which was the main reason for that post has got under my skin and raised my ire once again and rather than write a fresh post lambasting them I took what I thought was an easy (read lazy) approach.
Yes indeed the trilby is a dapper hat, unfortunately my wife of some 40 years doesn’t like me wearing a hat so it’s been a long time since I had the pleasure. I always wore one up until a year or two before meeting her had I have still been wearing them I’d probably be single still 😀 I found that there was a certain etiquette which was incumbent on the wearer of hats which I enjoyed.

I can’t explain Mr. Spader’s attraction. But he’s just very compelling. I find him fascinating.
As for the hat, I don’t see a lot of men wearing hats, but my dad did in his later years — a sort of tam like golfers might wear. Looked very jaunty. And I’m sure helped keep his very bald head warm. I imagine you’d look dapper indeed in a trilby.

He appears a somewhat enigmatic actor to me, I’m always expecting him to do something quite spontaneous, nothing so far but I’m still expecting and might I add hoping; he’s certainly not your run of the mill actor that’s for sure.
I may well have appeared dapper but I doubt I’d look dapper now but thank you for the compliment Susan! 😈

I’ve just finished replying to Susan’s comment so to save you the trouble of finding that I’ll cut and paste what I told her about The Blacklist and me 🙂 Getting lazy 😀 I think my views on this program are pretty much unchanged from when I watched the first series a couple of years ago, I did a post and you will surely take umbrage with my comments if you are a devotee of the show 😈 If you want to read what I wrote here it is;

We watched the show for a while. I write fiction, so implausibility and I are no strangers. What got us to stop watching the show was when her “husband” killed that guy in the boat. She could have stopped it, so that made her an accessory to murder.
She paid no price for that. What put the last nail in the watching coffin was the FBI guy telling her that it was OK that she got away with it because she does so much good in the course of her job.
Come to think of it, that was probably the most realistic thing about the show; government officials eschewing accountability and rationalizing doing so.
Basically, she lost the moral arc. The character might think nothing of it, but we did. We have not watched it since. By contrast, Spader plays the anti-hero character. He has a consistent moral code (flawed as it is). I think that is why he is watchable.

I must have missed that episode, more’s the pity I’m sure I’d have had something to say along the lines of your penultimate paragraph which would o doubt have been uncomplimentary to say the least. 👿
As for Mr Spader I must admit that I do enjoy watching him.

He does something with his mouth when he speaks that reminds me of someone trying to get something unstuck from their teeth. It got annoying after a while, mostly because I almost picked up the mannerism (I do that without meaning to).

I’ve noticed that too now that you’ve mentioned it, it’s almost as if he is swilling something around in his mouth. A very strange idiosyncrasy. I don’t let things like that get under my skin and annoy me, probably because I’ve got many that annoy others, says he parsimoniously 😀
