Few and far between. Blogs that is!

Getting there at last!

At least I think I am; last week I actually picked up a book to read, with the exception of that small book I bought the other week after reading a blog about it, it’s only 68 pages short and is titled “84, Charing Cross Road”; (note the comma after the number, this is something that I still do, it was how we were taught at school back before and during WWII I wouldn’t have a clue what they do over in England these days) which is a charming little book of the letters between a young American authoress in New York and a bookstore situated at, you guessed it 84, Charing Cross Road, London, W.C.2. from 1949 ’til 1969.

So as you can see my picking up a book to actually bury my head in for a couple of days was a turn up for the books. Naturally I took up a book with which I am very familiar, one that I always relax with and enjoy, I’ve read it so many times I’ve  lost count. I sometimes wonder when reading it, if I actually am reading it or just turning the pages and seeing the written words in my minds eye. Or something!

Tomorrow I’m off to see the dietician, Michelle, at the R.P.A. ( I was about to add the H. but my son Nathan Sebastian had the temerity to tell me that I was the only person in Australia to refer to this hospital as the RPAH and I needed to fall into line. Why I don’t know, I have in this instance but whether it will continue is in the lap of the gods and not having heard from Zeus & Co in a while it’s unlikely!) Now I’m fully expecting to be scolded by Michelle for not sticking rigidly to the diet and schedule, however she will undoubtably be pleased that my weight loss stopped and I’m now slowly gaining weight. And I’ll bet a penny to a pound that Nurse Susan will be there so everything will be fine; I hope.

Probably the weather has a lot to do with the way I’m feeling, gone the horrors of a miserable winter this year; we had the worst winter I can ever recall here in New South Wales, and it been so long since I lived in Victoria that I’ve forgotten how cold miserable and lousy winter can actually be. For the past few days the sun has been shining brilliantly and it hasn’t been warm it’s been HOT! Yes indeed, hot up in the 30°’s I do believe it got to 35° a couple of times, and this is early spring, looks like we’re in for a long hot summer.

Hmmm, come to think of it, that might not be so enjoyable for me now, always used to enjoy a nice ice cold beer on a real hot day, but I’ve lost the taste; I tried a beer last Friday whilst cooking dinner and quite enjoyed it but I opened one yesterday and I finished up pouring it down the gurgler! Sacrilegious I know but what was I to do? I just couldn’t drink it. And if anybody is wondering about me having a little tipple don’t worry God in the person of Doctor Sandroussi gave me the okay to have an occasional beer and recommended stout.

Going by the number of draft blogs/posts I’ve got it’s time I either finished what I started, got rid of the lot and start all over again. I’m sure something will happen quite quickly now, the suns shining, my bloods warming and all seems right with the world, and who will be the first clown to note the similarity between snakes, me, blood warming, etc etc etc.

  1. Good to hear that you’re doing so well and that spring is emerging for you. Seems weird, with our winter just around the corner. But I welcome relief from the heat.

The good thing about blogs is they wait patiently. Don’t feel obliged to chuck this one just because you aren’t writing frequently. It and and your readers will be here whenever you have something else to say. Meantime, enjoy those beers.

    1. Yes I’m really feeling much better and my recovery is now moving along at a fine clip I’m very optimistic now for a decade of annoying my family and friends 😈
Seriously though, it’s good to feel almost human again and I’ll plug along with the blogs as the mood grabs me.

Thanks for your good wishes and kind words I really do appreciate them. 🙂

  2. It’s nice reading you are improving (although I would not classify drinking beer as an improvement).

As for reading . . . while I can’t approve of the material, it’s good the effort is being made, although it does sound as if it’s more a test of memory than actual reading.

    Congratulations on your progress.

    1. Drinking beer and stout is on the advice of Dr Sandroussi who you may have noticed has been likened to god, so must therefore be classed as a great improvement, he also said some wine wouldn’t do me any harm either. Now does this man know what he’s talking about or not?

Whatever it was it was it was better tan sitting stuck in front of the idiot box. Perhaps an in depth essay/post/blog on my tv experiences will increase my following, who knows I might even go into double digits 😮

  4. My Dear Lord Beari your honour and all that palaver, I think you may be feeling a bit better. I hope so. I also hope you enjoyed the little book 84, Charing cross Rd. It is still after all these years a favourite of mine. If you have a factotum send him out to get the movie. It is equally entertaining and has Anne Bancroft as Helene Hanff and Anthony Hopkins as Mr Doel. I do remember one line where Mr Doel addresses a letter to her as “Dear Madam” and she sepons with something like, I do hope a Madam in England is not the same as a Madam in America.”

    1. With two good actors like that it’s probably a film I would enjoy, theres a JB shop less than a km away I’ll have to check see if they have a copy, it never ceases to amaze me, I’ve picked up some great old classics from them. As to the book I think it’ll become one of my favourites for when I’m feeling in need of a bit of cheering up.

  5. It’s great to hear all this good news, but you’ve got to keep up with the latest jargon – listen to your son and leave that dang H off of the RPA!! Haha. Try a different brand of ale or lager, medicine can alter your taste.

    1. Now that’s the best advice I’ve had in a long tie GP, there are enough ‘different brands ‘ of ale & lager to keep me going for years to come 🙄 😀

  6. I am so very glad your feeling better, I worry about you. But seems like your becoming your old self and I am happy about that. As I am sure your aware fall is the season here, I am not a winter person but I think it may arrive early. I also suspect our winter maybe be a cold snowy one, at least it will be if you trust the wooley worms, big, fat, and very black this year.
    Love ya

    1. Thank you Lisa,I have good days and bad, and lately here’s been a move to more good than bad, I’m still getting very tired easily and am lacking in energy, probably cos of the weight loss. God (Dr Sandroussi) wants me to put on anoher 5 kg, that’s a bit over 10lbs for the 20th/21st century people living in the New World, which is in a time freeze, and with your winter coming on what else can we expect.,… 🙄 😀 😀 😮
