For those interested in such things this event will take place next week on Wednesday 6th June in Australia between the hours of 08:16 hours and 14:44 hours. This should be of particular interest to Australians as it was on the pretext of observing the “Transit” back in 1769 – 70 that the voyage of the ‘HMB Endeavour’ took place and the discovery of this continent was made.
Well it really wasn’t just a pretext it was Mr Bank’s desire to witness the “Transit” from Tahiti and his willingness to fork out the £10.000. cost of equipping the expedition.
The replica of Cook’s ship the “HMB Endeavour” is scheduled to depart Sydney for Lord Howe Island on the 30th May to view this years event .
Over the past 5 years I have had the pleasure of being a volunteer guide at the Australian National Maritime Museum ( I’ve been unable to go these last several months unfortunately due to ill health but am hoping to get back there soon) and guiding aboard the Endeavour is/was my forté.

Perhaps I may add some photos taken aboard this ship from my collection.
The two links below are of great interest.

Alas, neither of those two links go where they say they go.
